Bollywood Movie Review: TASHAN

In what is being seen as the comeback plank of many industry superstars to the Yash Raj banner, ‘Tashan’ is already being seen and promoted as one of the biggest releases of 2008. The movie marks the return of Akshay Kumar( after Yeh Dillagi -1994 and Dil To Pagal Hai -1997), Kareena Kapoor( after Mujhse Dosti Karoge -2002) and Anil Kapoor( after Lamhe -1992) to the biggest production house in Bollywood. Along with the stylish Saif Ali Khan, they complete the star studded lineup of glamour and action in this movie, which is the maiden directorial venture of Vijay Krishna Acharya (credited with the screenplay of other Yash Raj hits like Dhoom and Dhoom 2). The movie is being produced by Aditya Chopra and Yash Chopra on behalf of Yash Raj Films, with Vishal-Shekhar providing the music.
Tashan, which stands for ‘style’ is believed to be a wholesome action commercial flick, with a brazen and overwhelming entertainment flavor. With plenty of twists, high powered performances, thrills, it’s expected to combine the age old Yash Raj Bollywood masala tinge with the fast pacedtelling trend of new age cinema.
The film revolves around a recovery agent, ‘Bachchan Pandey’ played by Akshay Kumar, who is employed by a petty wannabe gangster ‘Bhaiyaji’ played by Anil Kapoor. Kareena Kapoor plays a glamorous lady who owes a large amount of money to ‘Bhaiyaji’. ‘Bachchan Pandey’ is therefore assigned by his boss to recover the money from Kareena. This sets off a chain of events, in which Kareena is tracked around the world by the former, leading to a racy narrative. Saif Ali Khan’s role is pretty well guarded, as is the unconventional theme of the film. But what is surely known is that the film will feature his son, Ibrahim, making his debut and reportedly playing his reel life son.
The exciting plot and theme apart, Tashan has also been in the news for the fashionable new looks that each of the lead cast are sporting. Saif’s being the most prominent with a moustache and a mane, Akshay with designer stubble and a very short haircut, Kareena Kapoor’s ultra slim look to fit into the sexy attires and bikinis for her role. Even the normally conventional looking Anil Kapoor will be seen with a heavy, handlebar moustache.
The film was shot in various locales across the world. Shooting commenced in June 2007 in Kerala (that set the stage for the Saif-Kareena real life romance), and thereafter in Laddakh and Rajasthan. Some portions were also done in and around the Fort area of Mumbai and on the banks of the river Ganges at Haridwar. Exotic settings in Greece were also used.
The prmos of the film has raised a lot of hype and interest. Infact a recent IndiaFM poll put Tashan as No. 1 on the list of “Most Awaited Movies of 2008”. The punchline of the film- “THE ISHTYLE….THE GOODLUCK…..THE PHARMOOLA” itself evinces a lot of attention. Hitting the cinemas on 25 April 2008, it remains to be seen if this flick is as stylish at the box office as it is believed to be.

Ratnina launched his calendar on 5 January, at Olive, Bandra. Known for coming up with innovative ideas every year, he wanted to do something totally different this year since it’s the 10th Anniversary calendar. Speaking to the media, Ratnani says, “This is my 10th Anniversary calendar so I wanted to do something completely different. For the first time I got 48 actors to feature in it and even though it did take a lot of effort in getting everyone’s dates, it was not very difficult since I started to work on it as early as August and planned my concept well in advance.”

Sexy Dia Mirza is a item girl for Mithun flick

During his heydays, Mithun Chakraborty would have never imagined that some other dancer would ever be roped in to perform on an item number for a flick where he would be the lead protagonist. However, that has now happened with his upcoming film ZINDAGI TERE NAAM which has it's USP as his pairing with Ranjeeta.

Since the film has these veteran actors in the main leads with Priyanka Mehra and Aseem Ali Khan as the younger couple, its director Ashu Trikha has roped in Dia Mirza as an item girl. In the film, she gyrates to a track titled 'Main Soni Hoon' which has been put to tune by Sajid-Wajid and written by Jalees Sherwani.

Incidentally Ashu and Dia go back a long way. The film maker had made his debut with Arjun Rampal starrer DEEWANAPAN which starred Dia as the leading lady. It was only her second film after REHNNA HAI TERRE DIL MEIN. Though Ashu didn't cast her in Neha Dhupia's double role starrer SHEESHA, he went back to her with ALAG which starred Akshay Kapoor in the lead.

While the fact remains that none of these films have made much moolah at the box office, Ashu and Dia have continued to stick to each other's side and keep their professional relationship floating with ZINDAGI TERE NAAM.

However, when Amisha began to shoot, she developed fever because of repeatedly going into cold water in the month of January. Then, Kohli found a way out. He planned to heat up the pool’s water before shooting.

Katrina Kaif has just returned from Egypt after shooting a song with her favourite co-star, Akshay Kumar, for the keenly awaited Singh Is Kinng.

“Aishwarya has proved herself to be a good bahu. Now she wants to help with the family business,” said a source.

Ever since Bollywood mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan cleared his debts, he has nourished the dream of reviving his company, AB Corp.


AB Corp ran huge losses and most of its projects, be it films or the Miss World event, only created problems and could not make any profit.

With Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan busy with their film commitments and Jaya Bachchan with running the house and politics, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai has stepped in to help the family business grow.

Through Ash, the company now is negotiating with filmmakers to restart production work.

Sources say that its first film will have Abhishek and Ash and will be most probably directed by Goldie Behl .

The company plans to launch as many as six films in the coming months.

Another source said, "The plan is in place, to make a movie with Abhishek and Aishwarya. Goldie has been assigned to direct this movie, and a couple of story ideas are under consideration. After the release of Drona , whichever of these scripts shapes up best, will be chosen as AB Corp's comeback into production. The official announcements will made by the end of this year."

"Marriage is a beautiful chapter in life. It is so blissful and wonderful...in fact difficult to articulate. I strongly recommend it to everyone. Each one of us must experience it," she told.

Miss India Runner Up, Miss World & Modelling Career:

She then decided to take a break from architecture and concentrate on modelling. She made her first commercial for Camlin pencils when she was in the 9th grade. This green-blue eyed beauty stole ads for many prestigious firms, the ones which brought her into the limelight were the garden sari and the pepsi ad. Crowned Miss femina '94 runner up, she was a hot favorite to win the miss world title, which she did ! Her beauty and charm made her India's darling.

Facts about Miss India Competition Day:

Nothing went right for her on Miss India Competition day. She lost her swimsuit, a gift from her father, and a ring, which was a gift from her mother. Then there was the much - publicized showdown that took place backstage. Sushmita Sen complained to the Times of India authorities that Aishwarya had been given preferential treatment by the hair stylists and make up artists all day, while the other contestants were kept waiting until 15 minutes to show time, and she even threatened to quit the pageant (wouldn't that have changed history quite a bit!)
Well, it came down to two. Aishwarya and Sushmita ended up in a tie for Miss India/1, so another question was pulled out for the two to answer (what this question was, and how they answered it, is unknown by me, but according to many, Aishwarya was too ready to win and too overly confident of herself) and so, the rivalry came to an end, as Aishwarya Rai was declared Miss India/2, and Sushmita Sen was declared Miss India/1, ready for the Miss World and Miss Universe Pageants, respectively.

Miss World Introduction …

At the evening gown competition in Miss World Competition, where Aishwarya, fitted in a white extravaganza, came down, and took the microphone, as this was the part where each semifinalist stated something about "If I will become Miss World" and this is what Aishwarya had to say:

"Good Evening and thank you for this opportunity. If I shall go onto become Miss World today, I shall take over from Lisa (referring to Miss World 1993') onto my duties, with as much sincerity and dedication, to go on to become an ambassador of peace, goodwill, harmony and compassion, and trying to do full justice to our motto, 'Beauty with a purpose.' Remember, people, I'll always be there for you, thank you!"

Q - What qualities should Miss World 1994 embody?

Aishwarya Answer:

"The Miss World's that you've had up to date are proof enough, that they had compassion, compassion for the underprivileged ... Not only for those who had status and stature, but who can look beyond barriers that man has set up for ourselves of nationality (crowd again goes crazy with enthusiasm), color, we have to look beyond that, and that will make a true Miss World, a true person, a real person."

So at this point, the judges made their final decisions "...And

Miss World 1994 is...Miss India!!!"

Aishwarya Childhood and Teenage

She excelled at academics as a child and chose science as her area of concentration, hoping for a career in medicine (zoology being her favorite subject at the time) but later on she opt for Architecture. Instead, Ash -- one of her nicknames -- opted for a career in architecture, and passed her college entrance interviews with flying colors.
